The owners of Bija opened this playspace a few blocks from their current location and it's a huge hit in the neighborhood. Bija Backyard, located on Tiffany Place in Carroll Garden's West, is a great place to warm up on a cool winter day. This immaculate playspace (no shoes allowed) is decorated in bright colors, which can cure the winter blues. Kids can play with trains, read books or hide in the plastic house that occupied my son Max for hours. For ten bucks, you get three hours of play for your little one. I assure you, they won't be bored, and you won't be disappointed. If you bring a sibling, they're an additional 7 bucks.

For those of you who like to eat out, but don't have kids that sit still, this is the place for you. Max and I grabbed some lunch here after a music class that was housed in their hip backroom/playspace. The atmosphere in this restaurant/playspace is more Williamsburg hip than Chuck E Cheese. Instead of handing tokens to your little ones while you're forced to eat cheap pizza, here your tot can play with cool wooden educational toys, as you munch on organic eats. Mamalu has a very homey feeling (they have a huge chalkboard wall), it's very clean (no shoes in their playroom), and it's well worth the trip to the Burg. They also host birthday parties.

The newly renovated space at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum does not disappoint with a toddler play area which appears to be triple the size of the original Totally Tots area in the old museum. All the favorites are still there, but greatly improved like the enormous water play area Water Wonders which includes an indoor pond, dress up area and sand play for the under five set. Little ones will even enjoy the other exhibits, especially the World Brooklyn exhibit featuring recreations of local Brooklyn shops like L and B Spumoni Garden, where little ones can pretend to bake pizza and serve spumoni or bake bread at the Mexican Bakery with pretend dough. The museum now offers folks the opportunity to dine at their café on the second floor. The second floor also hosts exhibits like the exhibit on what it’s like to live on space (only on display until January) and the permanent collection of cool artifacts ranging from fossils to masks.
